Mechanical Engineer:
Intramotev is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the development team to meet growing demands in the development of self-propelled rail vehicles. Intramotev is developing multiple unmanned self-propelled vehicles. The role has a strong mechanical focus with additional hardware/software abilities – the successful candidate will be a member of the development team for innovative self-propelled capabilities in mechanical design (CAD), structural analysis (stress), and systems (brakes, motors, thermal control, retrofit installation, and support equipment), current and future platforms. The development of these capabilities include multi-disciplinary skills - algorithms development, systems development and integration. This position will be based out of St. Louis, MO

This position involves working in a dynamic team environment on small (1-2) to medium (3-6) person projects where excellent interpersonal and communication skills are needed. Due to the research nature of the work, project objectives and requirements are likely to evolve over the course of the role. A small amount of domestic travel to support integration, demonstration and customer engagement will be required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and translates requirements into system design.
  • Develops and maintains basic structural and subcomponent designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, to provide the retrofittable rail car kit design to the engineering team, production/manufacturing team, suppliers and external customers during the product development lifecycle.
  • Performs basic structural analysis using the analysis tools to develop the structural characteristics and performance.
  • Develops and maintains the design of mechanical systems and components along with their integration/installation on the vehicles.
  • Tests, analyzes results, and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.
  • Supports the certification via test results for meeting the standards of the regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied and safe operation is ensured.
  • Solves problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware design over the entire product lifecycle

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science
  • 3-5+ years relevant mechanical engineering experience (structural design, structural analysis (stress/strength), or mechanism design)
  • 3-5+ years experience using industry CAD systems (such as PRO-E, SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • 3-5+ years experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software (such as Patran/Nastran, Stresscheck, Hyperworks, Abaqus) and manual calculations for structural analysis
  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided)
  • Motivated, detail-oriented
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment or as an individual contributor
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • Unmanned Rail Systems / Unmanned Systems
  • Demonstrated experience working on project teams and collaborating with other engineering disciplines.

Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+1 years' related work experience, Master+3 years' related work experience, 5 years' related work experience, etc.).
