Intramotev is seeking a Senior Autonomy Software Lead to join the software development team to meet growing demands in the development of autonomous rail vehicles. Intramotev is developing multiple unmanned autonomous vehicles. The role has a strong software focus – the successful candidate will lead development of innovative autonomous capabilities in areas such as Detect and Avoid, Contingency Management, Multi-Vehicle Collaboration, etc., for current and future platforms. The development of these capabilities include multidisciplinary skills including: algorithm development (including AI/ML), system development and integration, and knowledge of cloud computing/simulation at scale. This position will be based out of St. Louis, MO

This position will involve executing applied research projects in automated decision making, machine perception, multi-vehicle collaborative control and autonomy architectures that will enable innovative capabilities (e.g. Detect and Avoid, Contingency Management, Multi-vehicle collaborative mission management) for current and future products. Work will include leading technology development efforts to prove the feasibility of new capabilities and can include integration and maturation up through full scale testbeds. Software efforts will also include work with simulations, control stations, networking/communications systems and cloud computing to support the testing of the new capabilities.

This position involves working in a dynamic team environment on small (1-2) to medium (3-6) person projects where excellent interpersonal and communication skills are needed. Due to the research nature of the work, project objectives and requirements are likely to evolve over the course of the role. A small amount of domestic travel to support integration, demonstration and customer engagement will be required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software development activities.
  • Develop, and deliver autonomy capability solutions, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop algorithms for sensing, perception and decision-making (including AI/ML algorithms)
  • Develop systems architectures, processes, tools to address unique verification and validation challenges, including certification
  • Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system.
  • Leading software development in cloud computing environments (i.e. GCP, Azure, AWS)
  • Leading the integration, test and transition of capabilities with simulation, hardware-in-the loop, and test-beds; and onto the platforms themselves.
  • Integrate application software, operating systems, middleware, and sensing/computer hardware, to develop/deliver complete solutions
  • Use software best practices – requirements analyses, architecture, design, code, and test to develop solutions
  • Use simulation-at-scale, and other methodologies to test different autonomy approaches
  • Work with and guide a team of talented engineers
  • Win and execute new business
  • Prior experience with UAV and/or robotics testing is desired but not required
  • Coordinates activities across a global team of researchers

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science
  • 4+ years coding in 3rd generation languages include C, C++, C# and/or Python programming
  • Excited to keep learning, willing to expand into technical areas beyond your current expertise; ability to develop, innovative, and apply novel approaches
  • Productive working in a teaming environment and also as an individual contributor
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • Unmanned Rail Systems / Unmanned Systems
  • Demonstrated experience working across organizational boundaries.

Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience, 9 years' related work experience, etc.).
