Backend Application Development Intern/Co-Op:

Intramotev is seeking an Backend Application Development Intern/Co-Op to join the software development team to meet growing demands in the development of self-propelled rail vehicles. Intramotev is developing multiple unmanned self-propelled vehicles. The role has a strong software focus – the successful candidate will be a member of the development team for innovative self-propelled capabilities in areas related to the hand-held customer tablets for current and future platforms. The development of these capabilities include multidisciplinary skills including: application development, system development and integration, and knowledge of cloud computing/simulation at scale. This position will be based out of St. Louis, MO

This position is responsible for designing and maintaining the database structures and web APIs Intramotev employs to translate pertinent information between TugVolt rail cars, Intramotev servers, and client monitoring/control applications.

This position involves working in a dynamic team environment on small (1-2) to medium (3-6) person projects where excellent interpersonal and communication skills are needed.  Due to the research nature of the work, project objectives and requirements are likely to evolve over the course of the role.   A small amount of domestic travel to support integration, demonstration and customer engagement will be required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop RESTful web APIs
  • Craft optimized and thoughtful database models and controllers
  • Collaborate with mobile developers and embedded control system developers to meet their functionality and data needs
  • Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.
  • Solve problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science
  • 1+ years of university and/or internship/co-op experience developing web software with ASP.NET/Ruby on Rails
  • 1+ years of university or intern/co-op developing web software with ASP.NET/Ruby on Rails
  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided)
  • Fluency in HTML & JavaScript
  • Experience implementing SQL/SQLite database engines in API backends
  • Experience with Swagger and Postman for documenting and testing web APIs
  • Motivated, detail-oriented
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment or as an individual contributor 
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • Courses related to Autonomous Systems
  • Demonstrated experience working on project teams.

Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 1 or more years' related work (internship/co-op) or university course projects experience.
